Mizo Zirlai Pawl, the most influential student body in Mizoram, will join the Northeast-wide protests against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in response to the call of the Northeast Students' Union (NESO).
The Mizo Zirlai Pawl General Secretary has informed that the students will stage a sit-in demonstration in front of Vanapa Hall in Aizawl at 2 pm to protest against the Central Government's bid to re-introduce the Bill which lapsed in the Rajya Sabha earlier this year.

The student body submit a memorandum to the Governor, PS Sreedharan Pillar, urging him to take the issue up with the Centre. Earlier, Mizoram's apex student body launched massive protests in Mizoram ever since the Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on January 8, 2019.
It may be mentioned here that the new draft of the Citizenship Bill will be different from the one that was introduced this year, that lapsed earlier this year in the Upper House, presumably because the ruling BJP party did not have a majority in the Upper House. However, this time around, the saffron brigade has a majority in both the Houses and some experts have opined that the Bill will pass this time around without much of a fuss.
Meanwhile, the indigenous bodies as well as student unions have resolved to launch protests against the Bill, which seeks to give citizenship to certain persecuted communities from neighboring countries.
