An earthquake of 5.3 hit Mizoram at 4:10 am on Monday. Tremors were felt in the Northeast for the second consecutive day. There are cracks seen in parts of the state, however, there have been no casualties reported so far.
The National Center for Seismology (NCS) marked Sunday's earthquake as 'reviewed' while confirming that the epicentre was 25 km east northeast (ENE) of Aizawl in Mizoram. The depth of the quake was 35 km while the coordinates of the epicentre are 23.80 (latitude) and 92.26 (longitude).
On June 18, a medium intensity quake pegged at a magnitude of 5 rocked northeastern states. In a statement, the Regional Seismic Centre said that the tremor was tracked at a depth of 80 km from the earth's surface with the epicentre in Mizoram's Champai district. The earthquake was felt in Shillong and all major cities in the northeast.
To further the matter, Mizoram CM said, "Two earthquakes rocked Mizoram within a span of 12 hours. Damage assessment is undertaken by concerned MLA and district administration. Fortunately, no casualties reported so far".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to the Mizoram CM to take stock of the situation. He has assured all possible support from the Centre.
Following this, the Mizoram CM has thanked the PM, "thank you Shri Narendra Modiji. Risk assessment underway. The people of Mizoram are grateful for your assurance".

Home Minister also spoke to the Mizoram CM. He tweeted, "I have spoken to Shri ">@ZoramthangaCM ji, Chief Minister of Mizoram, to review the situation after the earthquake tremors in the state. I assured him all possible support from the central government. Praying for everyone’s safety and well-being".
