MIZORAM EX-MLA SON HELD WITH GOLD WORTH RS 2 CRORES

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested the son of a former MLA of Mizoram and recovered a consignment of gold weighing over six kg estimated to be over Rs 2 crores. 24 year old accused Lalhmangaiha is a resident of Tuirial at Aizawl. He is a college drop-out who stays at a rented flat in north Kolkata. His father was an MLA earlier. Acting on a specific tip off, a team of officers of the DRI Kolkata zonal unit caught the accused at Burrabazar in central Kolkata. 40 pieces of gold biscuits of foreign origin were found in his backpack during a search. The consignment weighs around 6.64 kgs which is valued at around Rs 2.16 crores. Lalhmangaiha has been booked under the Customs Act.
