AIZAWL: Mizoram is reportedly hit by crisis of food and fuel as the state continue to bring essential commodities from Tripura and Manipur due to the alleged 'economic blockade' by Assam on NH 306.

This highway in Assam is crucial as it connects Mizoram to the rest of the country through Silchar.

Disagreeing to the claims made by the Mizoram government on the 'economic blockade', Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika said, "There's is no economic blockade from the government's side. If anyone is creating such blockades then I would like to request them to not do any such things".

He reiterated that the Assam government has not any taken step.

Reportedly, the state has been bringing essentials from Kolkata which are being carried from Spice Jet Flights.

The so-called blockade has severely hampered the availability of medicines required by critically ill patients and those suffering from COVID-19 in the state as well.

Following the border dispute on July 26, 2021, the Assam Government summoned all transporters in Guwahati who have been operating in Mizoram to stop transporting any goods into Mizoram due to ‘security concerns’ on July 29.

This led to a complete halt of all goods entering Mizoram, including basic medicines, life-saving medications, and COVID-19 medications.

Even oxygen cylinders, oxygen plant materials, and COVID-19 test kits have been halted.

Recently, essential commodities including oil tankers reached Mamit district of Mizoram  from Tripura after the state government started transporting essential commodities from other states amid ‘economic blockade’.

Earlier, the  State Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana had said Mizoram is under serious crisis due to a blockade created by the Assam Government.
