Dr. John Malsawma, Pediatrician, and Deputy Medical Superintendent of the Synod Hospital, said, “This seems to be the first case of MIS-C in Mizoram. Initially, we didn’t suspect it to be MIS-C. But when none of the conventional treatment was working for him we started to consider the possibility. Also, the child had a history of exposure to COVID-19 as his father was positive before he died. The child tested negative for COVID-19.”

MIS-C is an autoimmune disease, which is seen in children who have been infected with COVID-19 at some point in time. It does not matter whether the child had symptoms of infection or not.
Reportedly, Children who test positive for COVID antibodies have the possibility of getting MIS-C.
Symptoms of the disease mostly include high-grade fever, rashes, redness in the eyes, and inflamed joints. Different body parts can get inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs.
Dr. John also said that the child is being treated in the hospital as per the protocol, and improvements are seen.
It is not contagious, however, it can also infect adults, he added.
If appropriate treatment is given, it is not dangerous, said Dr.John.
