The Coronavirus-induced lockdown has not deterred the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) government in Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) in Mizoram from carrying out various developmental and public welfare works. These works include, among others, construction of a drainage system at Kamalanagar-III, PCC pavements, and school buildings which are going on in full swing.
On July 1st, 2020, in-charge CEM Dg. Durjya Dhan Chakma and Executive Member Dg. Lakkhan Chakma, i/c Industry, Law and Judicial Department etc., undertook a visit to the ongoing construction sites. They interacted with the PWD engineers and after taking stock of the work, expressed satisfaction over their quality and progress.

The construction of a drainage system at Kamalanagar-III is being undertaken at the cost of Rs 60 lakhs sanctioned for the financial year 2019-2020 as Additional Fund; the construction of Krishna Chandra Memorial School building at Kamalanagar-VI (SSB Colony) at the cost of Rs 30 lakhs sanctioned under BADP 2019-2020 and the PCC pavement of road (5-inch thick) from the starting point of Kamalanagar Helipad road to Dumping ground at the cost of Rs 40 lakh sanctioned under Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Department, Govt. of Mizoram, 2019-2020. Construction of two more school buildings have been completed at the cost of Rs. 20 lakhs each at Golasury and Barkhalak recently.
While visiting the PCC pavement construction sites, Dg. Durjya Dhan Chakma recalled that an amount of Rs 199.41 lakhs had been sanctioned for SMBT of road from Bajeisora road to Borapansury road via Kamalanagar Helipad including permanent works under SPA on 26th March, 2014 during Congress rule in CADC. The contract was allotted to one R.V Hluna of Aizawl on May 30th, 2014 and subsequently power of attorney was given to Sujata Chakma, wife of the then CEM Buddhalila Chakma for its execution.
However, the road has remained as deplorable as it was before because the construction work was never executed. “The road has remained blacktopped only on papers but not in practice”, Durjya Dhan Chakma lamented.
