The influential Church in poll-bound Mizoram has purportedly taken a stand against the BJP. It issued guidelines asking voters to keep the interests of the community in mind while casting their vote.
The Church questioned the BJP’s decision to observe the upcoming Christmas as “Good Governance Day”. According to the Church, if the BJP is voted to power, the religious freedom of people will be under a threat and the interests of the Christians will be ignored.
Earlier, BJP chief Amit Shah had assured that it would make the state secular and peaceful.
The Church plays an important and influential role in Mizoram politics. Recently, the Mission for Christ had expelled one of its full-time missionary for joining the BJP to contest the elections.
