The Aizawl Traffic Police of Mizoram, this year seized 176 modified exhausts and silencers that exceed the permissible sound level of 80 decibels.
The seized items were destroyed in the courtyard of the Aizawl Superintendent of Police's office, in accordance with the CJM's order dated November 13, 2024.
The decision was made in response to the Aizawl Traffic Police's rigorous efforts to curb noise pollution caused by motorcycles in the city.
In view of the upcoming festive season, many events are being organised in Aizawl leading to an increase in vehicular movement especially in the late hours.
Riding on motorcycles with modified silencers is not only illegal but also causes noise pollution and brings about stress, anxiety and psychological distress to children, the elderly and the infirm.
To curb this menace, Aizawl City Traffic Police has been conducting special drives in the night-time to catch such violators in the act, intending to continue carrying out stringent drives in the weeks to follow.
SP Traffic Police, Stephen Lalrinawma has expressed gratitude thankful to have apprehended many violators with the help of the Local Councils and Local Traffic Management Committees and is hoping for their continued support.
In order to ensure the peace and safety of all citizens this festive season, SP of Traffic Police requests the public to report any instances of drunken driving, riding with loud silencers, driving with excessive speed, riding without helmets, underage driving, and dangerous driving, to the Traffic Control Room on the numbers listed, along with registration number and photo of the offending vehicle.
