Students from Mizoram's only medical college, the Zoram Medical College held a candlelight vigil to protest against the rape and murder of a PG student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The vigil saw the participation of students, interns and faculty of Zoram Medical College who led out the march wearing their aprons.
Meanwhile, the civil hospitals and other private hospitals across the state also closed down their OPDs, catering services to only emergency cases.
Doctors with private clinics were also shut across Mizoram today.
The protest is part of a broader strike initiated by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), which began at 6 a.m. on August 17. The IMA has urged doctors nationwide to withdraw non-emergency medical services for 24 hours in response to the incident. While emergency services and casualty departments will continue to operate, outpatient departments (OPDs) and elective surgeries are expected to be heavily impacted.
