Frontline worker Dr. Sentimeren Aonok receives Nagaland's first Covid-19 vaccine shot

KOHIMA: Dr. Sentimeren Aonok, the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the Naga Hospital Authority in Kohima, became the first to receive the COVID-19 shot in the hospital.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio earlier today launched the state-level programme of COVID-19 vaccination at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima.

The state received 26,500 vials of Covishield and 13,250 health workers in the state will be receiving the two doses 28 days apart.

A total of 1,206 session sites have also been identified for the vaccination drive in Nagaland.

It needs mention here that Nagaland on Friday reported four fresh COVID-19 cases taking the tally to 12,039, while two more fatalities pushed the death toll to 88, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said. Twenty-two more people have been cured of the disease improving the state”s recovery count to 11,707, the minister said.

“4 positive cases of #COVID-19 have been detected today. Kohima-Dimapur-2 each. Also 22 +ve patients have recovered. Dimapur-21, Mon-1,” Phom said in a tweet.

Among districts, Dimapur has the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 6,451, followed by Kohima (3,761), Mon (605), Peren (504), Tuensang (244), Mokokchung (186), Zunheboto (142), Phek (47), Kiphire (41), Wokha (39) and Longleng (19).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched India's COVID-19 vaccination drive and asserted that the made-in-India vaccines being rolled out will ensure a "decisive victory" for the country over the coronavirus pandemic.

Addressing the nation ahead of the launch, Modi reminded people that two doses of vaccine are very important and asked them to maintain wearing masks and 'social distancing' even after receiving the jabs. Around 3 lakh health personnel across the country will receive the jabs today.
