"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." -- Charles Dickens in 'A Tale of Two Cities'
Amid the festive food that has gripped Northeastern India just ahead of the turn of the year, Nagaland Minister Temjen Imna Along has uploaded a picture on social media along with a message that champions the empowerment of women.
In a picture that he posted on Instagram, Along can be seen cooking a steaming hot, delicious looking stew. The pic in itself is amusing enough, but the Minister captioned the pic with words that perhaps ring true in a society on the cusp of change: "Contributing to household chores doesn't lessen you as a man. Instead, it increases the love and affection between you and your loved ones."

Although the picture was posted a while back (Temjen posted the picture 5 days ago), the Minister sends out a clear and strong message: that in a society that is slowly lurching towards gender equality, men should swallow their pride and spread the love around by taking part in household activities.
The message of 'feminism' has been done to death, but it takes men of action to follow through on the hypothesis and actually be considerate and partake in activities that have traditionally been considered a woman's domain.

Temjen's message calling for gender equality is perhaps all the more needed in these trying times, with the unrest over the Citizenship Amendment Act turning the streets of the country desolate, treacherous, and bloody.
In these best of times (because its winter, y'all), and the worst (or uncertain) of times (CAA-NPR-Peace Talks), the human element is something that gets overlooked. However, the Nagaland Minister spreading a message of equality over a pot of steaming good meat (?), could be one of the highlights of this festive season.
