Kohima, October 23, 2019:

In keeping with the theme of 'women empowerment', Naga women have joined the recently-launched two-wheeler taxi service in the state of Nagaland. Meanwhile, a Naga woman, Evelyn, has become the first official two-wheeler taxi driver in Nagaland.

Announcing this via its official social media handles, the Two Wheeler Taxi Kohima, wrote, "It was an inspiring and happy morning to flag off the welcoming of a lady rider into the two wheeler taxi service, Kohima. We are truly proud and encouraged by the courage of Ms Evelyn for coming out to be a part of the service who is also the first woman two wheeler taxi rider in Nagaland. We are also excited for the ones under training process."

Onen Nenty, best known for her solo bike tour covering all districts of Nagaland, who flagged off the event, believes that this is a right step towards eliminating unemployment as well as establishing 'girl power'. Speaking to Inside Northeast, Onen said, "I was invited to a small event where women riders were invited to join the two-wheeler service. One rider showed up, and more are expected to join the service soon."

Onen also says that flagging off the event was an emotional experience for her, having been flagged off herself in a similar event . "Barely 3 months back, I was flagged off by the Nagaland Governor on my solo bike tour, and now I was being invited to do the same. It was an extremely emotional moment for me, feels like things have come full circle", she revealed.
