Imphal, November 13, 2019:

The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) leaders arrived in Manipur with a "message of peace" and held interactions with leaders of Meira Paibi (women torch bearers) in the midst of the protracted Naga peace talks.

The NMA delegation reached here on Monday, and held talks with Meira Paibi leaders and other women activists on Tuesday. The visitors arrived with a message of 'peace and love' for people of the region, particularly in the two neighbouring States.

NMA adviser Dr Rosemary said that during the interaction, they discussed various issues concerning Manipur and Nagaland, particularly in the wake of peace talks between Centre and Naga rebel groups.

Observing that militarisation had taken place in both the States, both sides discussed the prevailing situation arising out of militarisation, she informed the media.

She added that they also discussed issues concerning the Naga peace talks and remarked that it was very encouraging that both sides shared their opinions in a free and frank manner.

Rosemary appealed for peace in the region, particularly in the two States. She stressed, “Any kind of solution between the Centre and Naga groups should not disturb peace and tranquillity in the region. Peace should be the primary concern of the negotiators.”

The NMA adviser stated that they are looking for peace and are looking for peace among all Nagas across boundaries. She further stated that the resolution of Naga political issue will depend on the Indian government and Naga negotiators, adding that people had no knowledge about the kind of “breakthrough” achieved between the India government and Naga negotiators in the last round of peace talks held on October 31.

“So, we are all waiting for a final outcome. We desire a permanent peace through peaceful resolution of the Naga political issue,” she added. But she asserted that whatever be the resolution, women of the two States would continue to maintain good relationships.
