Naga People’s Front (NPF) has suspended lone Rajya Sabha MP of Nagaland, KG Kenye from its primary as well as active membership for backing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that was later amended and made Citizenship Act.
An order released on Wednesday cited “voting in favour of CAB” as the reason behind the MP’s suspension from NPF. It also said that the MP was given time to explain the reason of supporting the controversial Bill-turned Act. ““You were also given special time slot to present your point of view,” said the suspension order of the Naga People's Front.

A consultative meeting, in pursuance of the recommendation of the Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC), was convened at the NPF Central Office in Kohima. It included the Central Office Bearers (COB) of the NPF, NPF Legislature Wing, frontal and cell heads, divisional presidents and special invitees.
The house decided to stick to the Central Executive Council’s (CEC) resolution to continue opposing CAA. The suspension order, which was made available to mediapersons, stated, “The house was also not convinced with the explanation rendered by you and arrived at a consensus that you acted in contrary to the said resolution. Hence, the matter was referred back to the DAC and the DAC, after proper application of mind, recommended suspension of your membership from the party.”

The Naga People’s Front’s order clearly stated that the MP’s intention and conduct in addressing a press conference after receiving the show cause notice from the DAC was deplorable.
It added that Rajya Sabha MP KG Kenye might have his own personal reasons in voting in favour of CAB/CAA but the NPF’s stand on the CAB/CAA would remain the same. NPF has vehemently criticized Kenye for not voicing against the CAB in the Rajya Sabha. “…your conduct and action inside the Upper House of Indian Parliament (Rajya Sabha) on this particular issue do not reflect and represent the stand of the NPF in any manner,” stated the order.

The suspension order stated that KG Kenye’s has wilfully refused to be subjected to NPF’s discipline. “Now therefore, in pursuance of the recommendation of the DAC and in exercise of the power conferred on me as the president of the NPF by Clause 9 of Article-V read with Article XIV of the Constitution of the NPF, you are hereby suspended from both primary and active membership of the NPF till further order,” it said.
