Dimapur: The Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre (SDGCC) of Nagaland’s planning and coordination department has come up with an initiative called “Nagaland for Green Christmas” campaign.
The key objective of this campaign is to align the Christmas festival celebration with UN Sustainable Development Goals dissemination and spark action among the public in Nagaland to make this Christmas and beyond sustainable.
The campaign will focus on mobilising all the residents of Nagaland to celebrate a sustainable and environment-friendly Christmas.
An official release said, “The need of the hour for our state primarily because while it is the most wonderful time of the year, it's not the most environmentally-friendly.” It said the festive season is traditionally the period of peak consumption across the state.
“With a little knowhow, we can actually host a statewide sustainable and eco-friendly Christmas. From the type of tree we buy to the food we eat, everything, no matter how big or small, can make a huge difference.
“The key is to incorporate small changes and considerations into our normal routine, think about the items we buy, how we use them and how we dispose them as well,” the department added.
The SDGCC of the department opened the “Nagaland for Green Christmas Contest” from today. The applications for the same will be accepted till December 26.
Residents of Nagaland can apply by sharing one to five photographs and one video of not more than a minute to showcase the best practices of how they are celebrating a Green Christmas.
The same may be also shared on social media platforms with #NagalandForGreenChristmas. The applications are being taken in two categories - 16 years and above and 15 years and below. To participate in the contest, one can log on to https://bit.ly/37wzSr9.
