Guwahati (Assam), Aug 10, 2018

Hundreds of vehicles have been left stranded on the road leading to Mokokchung district in Nagaland as Nagaland Police personnel and activists of Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) are reportedly stopping all vehicles to check documents of passengers.

According to reports, Nagaland Police personnel and NSF activists are carrying out a special drive to stop entry of suspected illegal immigrants from Assam into Nagaland.

As already widely reported in the media, neighbouring States like Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland have intensified vigil along the areas bordering Assam as they suspect that lakhs of illegal immigrants will enter from Assam following publication of the complete draft of NRC.

Civil society organisations, including student bodies, have started special drives in these States.
