Nagaland: Centre Announces ILP Extension in Dimapur

Dimapur, December 10, 2019:

Amid the ongoing ruckus over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Northeast, the Central Government has extended the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to Dimapur district in the Nagaland.

According to an order issued by the Nagaland Governor's office, the non-indigenous people visiting Dimapur, which was hitherto not covered under the Inner Line, shall be required to obtain ILP in the same mode as is required to enter the other ILP areas of the State.

Moreover, every non-indigenous person who has entered the State on or after November 21, 2019, the day Dimapur was constituted as tribal belt, shall be required to obtain ILP within 90 days. However, the non-indigenous settlers who have been living there continuously after that date, shall be exempted.

The order also informed that the Dimapur DC will set up suitable administrative structures and mechanisms for the setting up of the ILP in a "timebound manner."

Meanwhile, the Central Government has also announced the implementation of the ILP in Manipur state. This was confirmed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a discussion on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that was passed in the Lower House yesterday.
