Kohima, October 19, 2019:

With the Naga peace talks drawing towards a conclusion, much of the contention has been regarding a separate flag as well as Constitution for the Naga people. Now, RN Ravi, the Nagaland Governor and Interlocutor, has announced that the Government is clear in its stand that there will be no separate flag or Constitution for the Nagas.

With many of the parties giving different versions of the events, Ravi has clarified that the NSCN (IM), one of the primary stakeholders, has been delaying the process by bringing up the "contentious" issue of a separate Naga flag and Constitution.

The Centre had signed a framework agreement with the NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015 to find a solution to the Naga issue, but Ravi has accused the organization of adopting a “procrastinating attitude to delay the settlement, raising the contentious symbolic issues of separate Naga national flag and constitution".

Criticizing the NSCN (IM), Ravi had also stated that the "endless negotiation under the shadow of guns is not acceptable."

It may be mentioned here that on Friday, Mr. Ravi had held detailed consultations for over three hours with the apex leadership of all the 14 Naga tribes of Nagaland, all the minority non-Naga tribes of Nagaland, the Nagaland Gaon Buthas Federation, the Nagaland Tribes Council, the Church leaders, and civil society organizations in Kohima.
