Dimapur: The NSCN (I-M) has clarified that the January 8 incident in which four NSCN (I-M) cadres were arrested near the New Medziphema area on National Highway 29 in Dimapur district has nothing to do with a "vehicle hijack attempt" as claimed by the Dimapur police.

The police, in a press release on January 10, had said the four cadres were arrested for attempting to hijack an SUV vehicle.

The ministry of information and publicity of the NSCN (I-M), in a release, said, “There were dark shadows that loom on NH-29 and those are the people involved in illicit drug and arms business.”

The outfit, quoting its intelligence sources, said one particular party inimical to Naga interest was entering Dimapur with illicit drugs and other illegal items. It added that the four NSCN cadres were dispatched to identify and deal with them accordingly.

The release said it is a matter of regret that the police developed a misconceived notion that the NSCN members were attempting to hijack the SUV vehicle.

The NSCN wanted the police come out with an answer as to what transpired between them and the SUV occupants by setting the later free after focusing their attention on its cadres.
