NSCN-IM General Secretary arrives in Dimapur to appoint new leaders

Guwahati, February 5, 2019:

The General Secretary of the rebel outfit National Socialist Council of Nagaland- Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM), Thuingaleng Muivah visited Dimapur on Monday.

According to reports, the NSCN-IM leader is slated to hold a series of consultative meetings to decide the names of the next outfit Chairman and Vice- Chairman, besides attending the National Hoho Day, which will be held on February 11.

It may be mentioned that the posts have been lying vacant after the since the demise of Isak Chishi Swu and Khole Konyak and election of expected candidates: Q Tuccu as President and Tongmeth Konyak for the post of Vice President is expected to be held during this National Hoho Day.

The National Socialist Council of Nagaland is a Greater Naga Revolutionist, Christian Naga nationalist insurgent group operating mainly in Northeast India, with minor activities in northwest Myanmar until 2012.

The two major factions of NSCN are NSCN (K), led by Khaplang; and NSCN (I-M), led by Isak Chishi Swu and Thuingaleng Muviah. On November 6, 2015, in response to an attack on an army convoy in Manipur, the Government of India designated The NSCN (K) a terrorist organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. India's Ministry of Home Affairs has labeled NSCN a major insurgent group.
