NSCN-IM leadership extends Christmas and New Year Greetings to 'Naga nation'

DIMAPUR: The Collective Leadership of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim's Isaak Muivah faction (or NSCN-IM) has conveyed Christmas and New Year Greetings to the Naga nation

"The Collective Leadership of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) wishes the Naga people and the public a very happy Christmas and New Year," read a statement by the Collective Leadership comprising General Secretary Th. Muivah and Chairperson Q Tuccu.

"We know that this past year has been a very trying time for the Naga people, and we pray that this coming year brings more certain times for the Naga nation," read the communique issued by the leadership from Camp Hebron. "It is our pleasure to send you all our love and good wishes for the better days ahead. Let us keep our spirit high without wavering. May our Almighty God who has sustained us throughout be with you all during this holiday season!"

It needs mention here that the NSCN (IM) on Tuesday asserted that it would stick to the Framework Agreement (FA) and would not accept any “imposed solution” to the Indo Naga Peace Talks.

Stating this during the ‘Winter Parliament Session’ of the NSCN (IM) on Tuesday, the group’s Yaruiwo (Chairperson) Q Tuccu said that freedom to decide the future of a people by themselves is their inherent right. “In keeping with the spirit and letter of the Framework Agreement it is reiterated in the competencies stating, ‘In matters of her own affairs as mutually agreed upon, Nagaland shall be sovereign,’” Tuccu said in his speech, a copy of which was released to the media.

Tuccu went on to state that the Naga people have been looking for a solution that “protects their sovereign right, their future, their history, their territory, their identity, their culture, their religion and their state,” and are strongly opposed to any kind of “military solution or solution through coercion.”

“Therefore, imposed solution or solution with an unmandated group of people who don't represent the issue of the Nagas is not acceptable to the Naga people,” he asserted.

Tuccu's comments come against the backdrop of an impasse in the Peace Talks -- with the NSCN-IM holding firm over its demands for a separate flag and Constitution for the Nagas.
