Unidentified masked gunmen shot dead a senior Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isaak-Muivah) (NSCN-IM) functionary, ‘major’ Toishe Yeptho at point-blank range inside his residence at Purana Bazaar-B, Unity colony, Dimapur on Friday at around 7.30 p.m.
According to reports, two assailants came to the house of Toishe, while he was having food. The assailants first shot Toishe on the right temple and the second bullet hit the chest.
When contacted, PRO Dimapur police confirmed about the incident. PRO said that the assailants also fired at the NSCN ‘maj.’ Toishe’s wife, when she went in pursuit of them, but escaped unhurt.
Soon after the incident, the gunmen jumped off the wall and fired another shot in the air, sources informed.
Toishe, from Yemishe village, in his mid 40s, was rushed to Zion Hospital but the doctors declared him brought dead.
No further details could be ascertained as police said that investigation was on to establish the reason behind the killing. A case has been registered at East police station, PRO added.
