A massive forest fire erupted near Tseminyu town in Nagaland this afternoon, destroying plantations and farmland before being extinguished by community volunteers.
Local youths from Tseminyu village, T. Zisunyu, and town residents collectively mobilised to combat the blaze, which authorities say could have devastated the entire community if not contained promptly.
While Fire & Emergency Services personnel were present, they reportedly struggled to control the rapidly spreading flames. Sources indicate that a new fire station in Tseminyu is nearing completion but remains non-operational.
The Rengma Selo Zi has issued an urgent appeal on behalf of the Tseminyu citizens, calling for immediate action from the government.
"Because of Jhum cultivation being practice by Rengmas and the district is pront to forest fire, the necessity to established the office of Fire & Emergency services in Tseminyu is of utmost important inorder to counter such kind of incidences in the near future," the organisation stated.
