Major gunfight broke out between security forces and militants in Pulwama district of South Kashmir’s earlier this morning.
The encounter took place in Dalipora area during a cordon and search operation in the region.
As per reports, the security forces have launched a search operation in the region based on inputs of several militants are holed up in a house.
The gunfight is still on and operations to nab the militants hidden in the house are still on.
In the encounter, three terrorists have been killed and one soldier has been martyred.
The troops of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group conducted the search operation which culminated in the gunfight.
According to official sources, two more soldiers have been injured along with a civilian in the encounter. Internet service has been blocked in the entire valley in view of the incident.
It may be mentioned that Pulwama is the site of the dastardly terror attack where a Jaish militant rammed an SUV laden with explosives into a CRPF convoy vehicle, leading to the martyrdom of 40 CRPF jawans.
It is to be mentioned, on February 14, 2019, at least 42 jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been martyred in a deadly suicide attack at Pulwama’s Awantipora area in Jammu and Kashmir. The attackers used a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (known as VBIED) in order to target a CRPF bus that was part of a 50-vehicle convoy. It was considered to be the biggest terror attack in the district.
