At least four terrorists have been eliminated by security forces in an encounter in Daramdora Keegam area of Shopian district in Kashmir.
Although combing operations are still going on in the area, latest reports seem to suggest that the encounter between the two factions has ended.
It has been reported that security forces also found arms and ammunition from the four suspected terrorists.
It may be mentioned that the identity of the terrorists is yet to be ascertained. Moreover, there is still much speculation as to the group affiliation of the slain terrorists.
The encounter began after a cordon and search operation was launched in Daramdora village after the presence of militants was sensed in the area.
Police have said that the operation was focused in an orchard area. As the security forces tightened the cordon around the hiding militants, they opened fire that triggered an encounter which resulted in the death of the four terrorists.
It has been reported that the operation by security forces has now concluded. Meanwhile, search operations are still continuing in Shopian district as the security forces continue their crackdown against extremists holed out in the region.
Earlier on Saturday, one terrorist was killed during an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district. The gunfight was reported from Bujthalan area of Boniyar in Baramulla.
