Abhinandan Varthaman Leads MiG 21 Formation During 87th 'Air Force Day'

Ghaziabad, October 8, 2019:

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who became the face of the military confrontation between India and Pakistan after the Pulwama attack, led a 'MiG formation' during the celebrations of the 87th Rising Day of the Indian Air Force. The celebrations are currently underway at Handon in Ghaziabad.

Not just Abhinandan, but all the pilots who took part in Balakot air strikes, have been included in the parade as a mark of tribute to the teams which carried out the strike on February 26.

Indian Air Force officers who participated in the Balakot airstrike also flew 3 Mirage 2000 aircrafts and 2 Su-30MKI fighter aircraft in ‘Avenger formation’, at Hindon Air Base during the event on Air Force Day today.

Addressing the media on Air Force Day today, IAF Chief, Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria said that the Balakot airstrike, which has been one of the key operations of the forces this year, is the political leadership's resolve to 'punish perpetrators of terrorism'.

It may be mentioned here that the Indian Air Force, which was founded on 8 October, 1932, is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces. Its complement of personnel and aircraft assets ranks fourth amongst the air forces of the world. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during armed conflict.
