Authorities Dispel Rumours About MIG-21 Crash

Srinagar, June 29:

The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday dispelled the rumours about the crash of a MIG-21 aircraft near Nasrullahpora village of Budgam district.

Police sources informed that there was no plane crash in Budgam while all the flights were operating as per schedule."These are all rumours, no plane has crashed in Budgam," the officials said.

Earlier, rumours were being spread on social media that a MIG-21 had crashed near Nasrullah pora Budgam which led to the closure of Airport.

However, the officials said that no such incident has happened.

Meanwhile, director Srinagar Airport has confirmed that the flights at Srinagar Airport were functioning smoothly. "Airport is not closed," he said.

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-21 is a supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft, designed by the Mikoyan-Gurevich Design Bureau in the Soviet Union. Its nicknames include: Balalaika, because its planform resembles the stringed musical instrument of the same name; Ołówek, Polish for "pencil", due to the shape of its fuselage,[3] and; Én bạc, meaning "Silver Swallow", in Vietnamese.

Approximately 60 countries over four continents have flown the MiG-21, and it still serves many nations six decades after its maiden flight.
