New Delhi, September 10, 2019:

Bollywood actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar on Tuesday resigned from the Congress party in Maharashtra.

Urmila Matondkar resigned from the Congress merely five months after she had joined the party in March, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The 44-year-old actor had unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North seat as a Congress candidate.

As per reports, the resignation came after no action was taken regarding her letter in which she had criticized close aides of senior party leader Sanjay Nirupam.

Urmila Matondkar had joined the Congress in March.

Urmila Matondkar is an Indian film actress, television personality and politician, primarily known for her work in Hindi cinema, in addition to Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu films. One of the most popular actresses, she is the recipient of numerous accolades, including a Filmfare Award, a Screen Award and a Nandi Award. Establishing a career with a variety of character types; her film roles contributed to a new on-screen persona for a Hindi film heroine, in which she was known for her acting, intense style and dancing skills.
