Chidambaram Arrest a Plot to Divert Attention from Article 370?

New Delhi, August 22, 2019:

Former Union Minister P Chidambaram spent the night at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) headquarters after a dramatic arrest late on Wednesday from his house in South Delhi in connection to a corruption case.

Meanwhile, Karti, the son of the senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, who has also been named in the case, has said the arrest of his father is "totally vindictive" and added that this is an attempt by the Modi Government to divert from from the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A in Kashmir, which was seen as a controversial move by many.

It is to be mentioned that Chidambaram was one of the most outspoken voices against the abrogation of the Article 370.

Public interest lawyer and activist Prashant Bhushan said that the P Chidambaram's arrest for "custodial interrogation" was "malafide".

The Indian National Congress (INC) leaders have thrown their support behind former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who was arrested yesterday.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that the party will continue to fight for the truth no matter what the consequences are.

Meanwhile, attacking the Congress party vehemently, Rahul Gandhi said, "Modi's Govt is using the ED, CBI & sections of a spineless media to character assassinate Mr Chidambaram. I strongly condemn this disgraceful misuse of power."
