Coronavirus: India Tally Reaches 11,439 Positive Cases, Death Toll Rises to 377

New Delhi, April 15, 2020:

The coronavirus cases across the length and breadth of the country continue to rise as India begins its second phase of lockdown. With a death toll soaring to 377 in the country on Wednesday, the Government is now looking at imposing strict lockdown rules in a bid to contain its further spread.

India's current coronavirus cases now stand at 11,439. With 1,076 fresh cases, India has now entered a stricter phase to curb the virus. The death toll related to novel coronavirus climbed to 377 in India on Wednesday.

The numbers include 9,756 active cases while 1,306 patients have either been discharged or cured, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. The total number of cases includes 76 foreign nationals.

According to the Health Ministry's data, the highest number of confirmed cases in the country is from Maharashtra. The State has 2,687 coronavirus cases, followed by Delhi with 1,561 and Tamil Nadu with 1,204 coronavirus cases.

Positive cases in Rajasthan have also surged to 969, followed by Madhya Pradesh (730), Uttar Pradesh (660), Gujarat (650), Telangana (624), Andhra Pradesh (483) and Kerala (387).

Jammu & Kashmir has 278 positive cases, Karnataka 260, Haryana 199 and West Bengal has 213 cases. Punjab has 176 people tested positive for the virus. Bihar has reported 66 cases, while Odisha has 60 coronavirus cases. Uttarakhand has 37, Himachal Pradesh and Chattisgarh have 33 cases each, followed by Assam with 32 cases.

Jharkhand and Chandigarh have 27 and 21 positive cases, Ladakh has 17 and Andaman and Nicobar Islands have 11 cases. Goa and Puducherry have 7 cases, Meghalaya has 6 active cases and Manipur and Tripura have two each. There is one case in Mizoram. One from Nagaland has tested positive in Guwahati, Assam.

In India, Sikkim is the only state without a single positive case till the filing of this report.

Death Toll

The first COVID-19 patient of Meghalaya passed away on Wednesday morning. Maharashtra has reported 11 deaths, 7 people have died in Madhya Pradesh, 4 in Delhi, 3 in Karnataka, 2 in Andhra and 1 each in Punjab and Telangana.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued fresh guidelines to be followed by the people of the country. The new guidelines have given some relaxation for agricultural activities and industries in rural areas.

World Tally

The positive cases from coronavirus have crossed the 2 million mark. The current status is 2,004,989 cases worldwide. 126,830 people have died of the virus. 485,362 people have recovered. 1,392,797 active cases of the virus are there, out of which, 51,596 (4%) people are in critical condition.

The United States is the country with the highest number of positive cases - 614,246. It has reported 360 new cases in the last 24 hours. 26,064 people have died so far. 17 new fatalities have been reported. Spain, Italy, France, Germany, UK, China, Iran, Turkey and Belgium are the top countries with the highest number of cases after US.
