With a total of 10,363 cases of coronavirus in India, the country has extended its nationwide lockdown till May 3, 2020. The number includes 8988 active cases, 1035 cured/discharged/migrated and 339 deaths.
India recorded 51 deaths and 324 coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours. As per the official records, Maharashtra, which is the state with the highest coronavirus cases in the country, now has a total of 2,455 positive cases. 121 new cases were recorded in the State as on Tuesday morning.
Maharashtra Government has constituted task force of specialist doctors, with six hospitals as 'COVID-19 Critical Care Hospitals'. Within Maharashtra, Mumbai has the highest number of positive cases (242). Worli Koliwada in the metro has been declared a COVID19 'containment zone'. The administration has restricted the movement of people in this area.

Following the lockdown extension, the Indian Railways have also suspended all the passenger train services including Premium trains, Mail/Express trains, Passenger trains, Suburban Trains, Kolkata Metro Rail, Konkan Railway, etc till May 3. The department has decided to fully refund the fares for the e-tickets booked earlier. Full fare will be credited back into users accounts from which payment was made.
Delhi, with 1,510 cases of coronavirus, has recorded 356 new cases and 79 percent of these cases are said to be linked to the Tablighi Jamaat event held at Nizamuddin Markaz.
Tamil Nadu (1,173), Rajasthan (873), Madhya Pradesh (604), Telangana (562) and Uttar Pradesh (558) have also seen a spike in the coronavirus cases.
Karnataka has recorded 11 new cases till the filing of this report. The total number of positive cases in the state is now 258 including 9 deaths and 65 discharged.

In the Northeast region of the country, 38 cases of coronavirus have been recorded, with 31 in Assam, 1 in Meghalaya, 1 in Mizoram, 1 in Arunachal Pradesh, 2 in Tripura, 1 in Manipur and 1 in Nagaland.
It needs mention here that Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday morning announced the nationwide lockdown extension in a bid to contain the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
The Prime Minister has also urged the people to stay put where they are, amid reports that restrictions on inter-state travel will not be eased anytime soon.
“Respect people who are helping us in this tough time like healthcare workers, sanitation workers, Police, etc. With all dedication, follow the lockdown till May 3. Stay wherever you are and be safe,” said the PM.
He has also urged the people to download the Aarogya Setu App and ask others to download too and use home-made masks sincerely. Keeping in view the grave situation, Modi has urged people to refrain from snatching people’s jobs.

“We will issue a detailed guideline tomorrow. We are making attempts so that farmers, poor people are least affected. If we will have patience, we will defeat the coronavirus,” said PM Modi.
He further said that the country has to fight the coronavirus battle even more strictly. Asserting that stringent measures will be enforced now, PM Modi said, “We cannot let our guard lower now. The hotspots need to stay alert and the places which are emerging as new hotspots need to be closely monitored as well. Till April 20, we will monitor how well the districts are doing. In places where the situation is improving, few relaxations will be made,” PM Modi said, adding that relaxations will be cancelled if the situation deteriorates later.

Meanwhile, 1,929,633 people have been affected due to the virus worldwide. 119,785 people have died so far. Out of the 1,356,830 active cases, 51,154 people are in critical condition.
5,785 new cases were recorded worldwide with the highest, 232 in the US alone. 587,173 people are now suffering from coronavirus in the US. 23,644 people have died in the US due to the virus. The country recorded 4 new fatalities.
China, where the virus originated, now has 89 new cases. It has 82,249 positive cases of coronavirus. 3,341 people have died. It needs mention here that China is witnessing a slump in the cases.
