BENGALURU: After concerns over the new COVID strain detected in the UK, the Karnataka government on Wednesday imposed night curfew in the state from tonight.
Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa informed that the night curfew will remain in force till January 2, from 10 pm to 6 am
Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar informed that the authorities have started monitoring international passengers arriving into the state.
“This (night curfew) has been done to prevent and contain the coronavirus strain found in the UK. We are also monitoring international passengers arriving in the state,” Sudhakar said.
“Between December 23 and January 2, no function or festive celebration is allowed to take place after 10 pm. It applies to every kind of functions,” the minister informed.
Earlier this week, Maharashtra government on Monday announced night curfew from 11 pm to 6 am in major cities across the state from 22 December to 5 January as a precautionary measure amid mounting fears about a new coronavirus variant spreading in UK
Meanwhile, On Monday the country announced that it has temporarily banned flights from UK to the country after the emergence of a new and highly infectious strain of the coronavirus in Britain. The suspension of flights from UK will come into effect from tomorrow, 22 December midnight and will continue till 31 December.
