This Diwali, low-emission 'green crackers' with a unique logo and QR code on the packages will be available in New Delhi, which is one of the most pollution-prone cities in the world.
The CSIR-National Environment Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-NEERI) officials stated that over 550 emission testing certificates have been handed over to firecracker manufacturers.
An official added that the green crackers will have a unique logo on the boxes to help people identify them.
Reportedly, more than 70 percent of the major manufacturers have got emission testing certificates from the authorities.
Unlike, last year, the green crackers this year will be available in Delhi-NCR.

It may be mentioned here that as per the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, firecrackers that cause 30-35 percent lower emissions of particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) and 35-40 percent lower Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions are categorized as 'green crackers'.
In 2018, the Supreme Court had imposed a partial ban on sale and bursting of firecrackers in the national capital.
The bursting of firecrackers was only allowed between 8 pm to 10 pm on Diwali day. However, residents later complained that the allowed 'green crackers' were nowhere to be found in the market.
Last year, the air quality in Delhi alternated between 'poor' and 'very poor' during Diwali-time, when pollution is at its all-time high.
