Mumbai, October 30, 2019:

Devendra Fadnavis has been selected by the BJP party to become the Chief Minister of Maharashtra for the second term.

A meeting was held at Vidhan Bhawan in south Mumbai that was attended by Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar and party vice-president Avinash Rai Khanna. All the 105 newly-elected BJP MLAs were also present at the meeting.

Reportedly, Tomar said no other name was proposed at the BJP legislature party meeting.

Fadnavis conveyed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah for trusting him. He also mentioned that the alliance partners will soon form the government in the state.

The Shiv Sena has been trying to snatch a bigger piece of the pie, reminding the BJP of the “50-50” power-sharing agreement arrived at before the elections.

The battle for the CM’s chair turned worse after Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday denied that such an agreement was reached and asserted that he could continue as the chief minister. This has closed the doors on the demands for the chief minister’s post by the Sena.

Following this, the Sena has called a crucial meeting of its members on Thursday to decide the future course of action.
