Devendra Fadnavis, of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has been sworn-in as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Ajit Pawar, a member of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has taken the oath as the Deputy Chief Minister.
While the whole nation was expecting the Sena-NCP-Congress alliance to form the government, BJP surprised everyone with Devendra Fadnavis as the Maharashtra Chief Minister on Saturday morning.

A twitter post by the BJP leader, now the new CM Devendra Fadnavis, has also surfaced the internet. The 2014 post reads, “BJP will never, never, never have any alliance with NCP. Rumours are motivated. We exposed their corruption in assembly. Others were silent.”
It may be mentioned here that the Fadnavis’ swearing-in is considered as an overnight coup of the BJP to refrain Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray from becoming the CM.
It has been reported that early in the morning on Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) came together and met the Maharashtra Governor to stake claim to form the Government.

The duo was sworn-in at function in Raj Bhavan held around 8 am in the morning. A few BJP and NCP leaders were present during the ceremony.
It may be mentioned here that earlier, NCP veteran Sharad Pawar had announced that the new Maharashtra government would be led by Uddhav Thackeray. However, Fadnavis becoming the new CM has disappointed NCP chief Sharad Pawar.
Speaking on the sidelines of his nephew Ajit Pawar taking the oath as the Deputy CM, Sharad Pawar said that he came to know about the development at 7 am today. He informed that it was not his decision to join the BJP.
The new alliance has come as a major jolt in the political scene of Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar, who was in supporting Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray for the Chief Minister’s post and was hinting at the alliance of NCP-Sena-Congress, decided to join the BJP. Although NCP Chief Sharad Pawar said that he was unaware of the developments, according to reports, no decision is taken by the NCP without Sharad Pawar's assent.

"Congratulations to @Dev_Fadnavis Ji and @AjitPawarSpeaks Ji on taking oath as the CM and Deputy CM of Maharashtra respectively. I am confident they will work diligently for the bright future of Maharashtra", Modi wrote on Twitter.
