Guwahati, April 10, 2019:

In a surprising turn of events, the Election Commission has banned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's biopic just a day before it was scheduled to hit the cinemas.

The Vivek Oberoi-starrer has run into road bumps ahead of release due to many opposition parties raising a hue-and-cry over the movie claiming it to be "propaganda" for the BJP-led Government at the center ahead of elections.

The Election Commission has issued prohibited the film from being released during the elections as it may influence voting behavior.

The EX has ordered that any biopic material, which has the potential to disturb the level playing field during the election, should not be displayed in electronic media including cinematograph during the operation of Model Code of Conduct.

The election in India will be held in 7 phases from 11 April to 19 May. Counting will take place on 23 May.
