'Hindu Mahasabha' Leader Shot Dead in Lucknow

Lucknow, February 2, 2020:

Ranjit Bachchan, the leader of the Vishva Hindu Mahasabha's chapter in Uttar Pradesh, was shot dead earlier today while taking a stroll in Hazratganj area of Lucknow, the heart of the capital city.

According to media reports, bike-borne attacked opened fire on him and his brother. While Bachchan's brother has been shifted to a hospital after suffering gunshot wounds, the Hindu Magasabha leader was shot several times in the head and died on the spot.

"The body has been identified as of Ranjit Bachchan, who had gone out on morning walk when some unknown assailant shot him. A police team has been formed and further investigation is being carried out", said Dinesh Singh, the DCP of Lucknow.

It may be mentioned here that Bachchan, who was a Samajwadi Party member before joining the Hindu Mahasabha, was often spotted with former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
