Dhaka, March 28, 2019:

A red alert has been sounded by Bangladesh in view of the radical group Hizb ut-Tahrir’s plans to step up activities after the general elections in the neighboring country.

According to reports, the group, which seeks to form a caliphate in the country, plans to assassinate Awami League leaders including Bangladesh Prime Minister Shaikh Hasina.

It may be mentioned that just before the general elections in Bangladesh held on 30 December 2018, the group had marched through the streets of Dhaka and distributed leaflets and posters calling for the ouster of the Awami League.

As per reports, several members of Hizb ut-Tahrir have been arrested by Bangladesh police in the months after the election.

It may be mentioned that the Hizb ut-Tahrir (Translation: Party of Liberation) is an international, pan-Islamist political organisation, which describes its ideology as Islam, and its aim as the re-establishment of the Islamic Khilafah (Caliphate) to resume the Islamic way of life in the Muslim world.
