J&K, February 26, 2019:

National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday raided the Maisuma residence of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik.

A spokesman of the outfit said that the NIA along with the police and security forces in heavy numbers cordoned off the residence of Malik at 7:30 am.

Yasin Malik is a Kashmiri separatist leader who advocates the separation of Kashmir from both India and Pakistan.

“The area has been cordoned from every side and even press is not being allowed to move into the area,” he said. The raids are being carried out even as the JKLF chief is being lodged at Kothibagh Police station.

The JKLF is a political organisation in Jammu and Kashmir founded by Amanullah Khan and Maqbool Bhat. Originally a militant wing of the Plebiscite Front, it changed its name to JKLF in Birmingham, England on 29 May 1977. From then until 1994, it was an active militant organisation.
