Patna, December 18, 2019:

Noted activist Kanhaiya Kumar, joining the lakhs of voices against the contentious amendment of the Citizenship Act, led chants of 'Azadi' at a mega rally in on Tuesday.

Kumar, addressing thousands upon thousands who had converged to raise a united voice against the Citizenship Amendment Act, or C(A)A. "Hum ladke rahenge azaadi" (we will fight for our freedoms), Kanhaiya Kumar intoned, and the masses followed suit, raising the slogans like the cogs of a well-oiled machine of dissent.

The former JNU student leader also demanded "Gandhi waali azaadi" (Gandhi-like freedom) and demanded justice for the Jamia Milia Islamia students who were injured during baton-charge by police personnel during C(A)A protests near the University campus.

Similar slogans are being raised in Universities across the nation. In Assam, from which the flames of rebellion originally emanated, students of the Gauhati and Tezpur Universities were seen raising such slogans with great gusto.

It may be mentioned here that the student communities of India -- and across the world -- are vehemently opposed to the amendment, which is seen as "undemocratic" and "unconstitutional" by its detractors. Furthermore, it is claimed that the Act, which gives citizenship status to non-Muslims from neighboring countries, challenges the very secular fabric of the Constitution.

Concerned citizens of Delhi, on Monday, staged a reading of the preamble of the Indian Constitution, which lays an emphasis on the "sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic" nature of the Constitution, near the India Gate in New Delhi, as a mark of protest.
