March 18 declared day of national mourning by Govt after Goa CM Parrikar’s demise

Guwahati, March 17, 2019:

The Indian Government has announced that Monday, March 18 would be a day of national mourning, as per reports. Parrikar, a three-time Goa Chief Minister and former Defence Minister, breathed his last on Sunday after struggling with a prolonged illness since February 2018.

A statement from the Centre read: “The National Flag will fly at half mast in the National Capital and capitals of States and UTs. State funeral shall be accorded to Shri Parrikar. A meeting of the Union Cabinet has been called at 10 am on Monday, March 18.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meanwhile, has condoled the death of the Goa Chief Minister on Twitter. He wrote: “Shri Manohar Parrikar was an unparalleled leader. A true patriot and exceptional administrator, he was admired by all. His impeccable service to the nation will be remembered by generations. Deeply saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and supporters. Om Shanti.”
