Addressing the media, Harish Rawat said, “India has its pre-set rules on illegal migrants. Under that rule, the Central government, whoever is in power has to follow the “Law of the Land”. For the BJP, illegal migrants are a political issue and for us, the Congress, it is a law-and-order issue.”
Adding that even former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee had to follow the pre-set rules and regulations, Rawat said, “This government has brought a new model, ‘Modi- Amit Shah Model’ which is a divisive model.”
The Congress leader also criticized the PM Narendra Modi led government stating that they have deported only 1200 illegal migrants since they came into power, whereas, the Congress deported 84,000 migrants under their government.

Clearing the party’s stand against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, Harish Rawat said that the Act hurts the “Idea of India”, Rawat added, “The C(A)A violates the Indian Constitution, cultural vividness, and cultural uniqueness.”
Turning down heavily on the BJP leaders’ allegation of Congress’ involvement in the C(A)A violence, the Congress leader sought an inquiry into the matter under the directions of the sitting judges of the Supreme Court.
