Mumbai City Likely to Get its First Female Police Commissioner

Mumbai, August 22, 2019:

With Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve’s tenure coming to an end, Maharashtra's Intelligence Commissioner Rashmi Shukla is in talks to become Mumbai city’s Police Chief.

A top contender for the post, the IPS officer will become the first-ever female to hold this title in the financial capital, should she be selected.

It may be mentioned here that Rashmi, who is known for breaking the proverbial 'glass ceiling', was also the second woman police commissioner of Pune when she took charge of the post back in 2016.

With Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve’s tenure coming to an end, there’s much talk about who will replace him and take over the highly coveted position.

According to sources, the two front-runners are Anti-Corruption Bureau’s Director General Parambir Singh, a former Anti Terrorist Squad  and State Intelligence commissioner Rashmi Shukla.

Since both the above contenders have a solid background, with Shukla showing excellence as Additional Director General (ADG) and majorly contributing to the safety of women in Pune, Singh was previously the police commissioner of Thane, when Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar was arrested for extortion.

Rashmi is a 1988-batch IPS officer who is supremely respected in the Maharashtra Police Services.

She believes that women need not feel inferior or indulge in speculation whether or not there are biases and instead, charge forward.
