NEW DELHI: More details have emerged about India's brand new Parliament building to be built at a cost of Rs. 1,000 crore (approx). The project, to be built by Tata Projects Ltd, shall be erected in an area of 64,500 sq m, 17,000 more than the older building, at an expense of Rs 971 crore. Notably, it will be 17,000 square. m larger than the existing Parliament building. Social media personality Dhruv Rathee, who has been known for calling the current administration out for its excesses, took a swipe at Prime Minister Modi for giving a go-ahead to the ambitious project amid the ecenomic slump.

The construction commences amid a dramatic slump in the nation's finances following the lockdown that was called to arrest the spread of the COVID-19.

At -7.5 per cent, the gross domestic product (GDP) rebounds, but India is now in technical recession with two successive quarters of shrinking output, due to the lingering effects of lockdowns to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.
