Nirbhaya Rape Convicts to be Hanged on Feb 1

New Delhi, January 17, 2020:

A Delhi Court has issued fresh death warrants for the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case.

As per the new warrants, the four, namely, Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Singh, Akshay Singh and Pawan Gupta will be hanged on February 1 at 6 in the morning.

Earlier, the Delhi government had said that the convicts would not be hanged on January 22 following a mercy plea by Mukesh, one of the victims.

It may be mentioned here that a series of develeopments have taken place today in the brutal rape and murder case of the Delhi crime.

President Ram Nath Kovind has rejected Nirbhaya rape-murder convict Mukesh Singh’s mercy plea. The rejection came hours after the Ministry of Home Affairs forwarded the application to the President.

And now the fresh death warrants. February 1 is the fresh date on which the four will be hanged as per the latest report.

It may be mentioned here that Vinay, Mukesh, Akshay Singh and Pawan Gupta are the four convicts in the gruesome rape and murder of Nirbhaya (name changed) on December 16, 2012. She died on December 29, 2012 at Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

The brutality of the rape had shocked the nation and tagged Delhi as the rape capital of India. It had led to massive protests across the country demanding justice for Nirbhaya and the countless crimes carried out against women.
