Taking stock of the prevailing Covid19 situation, Prime Minister initiated the 5th video conferencing session with all the Chief Ministers of the country. In this, he appreciated the efforts of the state government in dealing with the unprecedented crisis that has befallen the country. There is a global recognition for India’s success in handling the COVID19 pandemic and Govt of India appreciates the efforts made by all state governments in this regard, says PM Modi.
Here are the key points raised by the Prime Minister
In the discussions, the CMs of the southern states raised the issue of interstate train travel. "As positive cases in Chennai are showing an increasing trend, don't permit train service up to May 31 in Tamil Nadu. I request you not to begin regular Air services till May 31", says Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami.
Telangana CM KCR also forwarded the same view. "All the states are under massive financial burden and no state is in a stage to clear the debt to the Centre." KCR also requested the PM to 'reschedule' debts that states need to pay to Centre, like the way farmer loans have been deferred.
The two chief ministers are further joined by Andhra CM Jagan Mohan Reddy and Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel in opposing the move.
