In a press communique issued on Monday, the Congress party has lashed out at some sections of the media for spreading "gossip" and "rumors".
"Various conjectures, speculations, insinuations, assumptions, gossip and rumour mongering in a section of the media is uncalled for an unwarranted", read the communique issued by AICC Communications in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala.
In the body, the Congress stated that the Congress working committee is the highest decision making body of the Indian National Congress and is a democratic forum to exchange ideas, formulate policies and take corrective actions.
The Congess has revealed that members of the CWC expressed their views in the meeting held on Friday.
The party has also stated that the CWC looked at the reverses in the Lok Sabha elections as an opportunity for radical changes and a complete organizational "overhaul", a sentiment which has also been echoed by many Congress leaders such as three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
"The Congress party expects everyone including the media to respect the sanctity of a closed door meeting of the CWC", the statement read.
The Congress party, in the release, has also stated that the CWC held a collective deliberation on the performance of the party, the challenges before it was also the way ahead, instead of casting aspersions on the role or conduct of any specific individual. The gist of the deliberations was made public in the CWC resolution on May 25, 2019.
"Requesting everyone, including the media, not to fall into the trap of conjectures or speculations and await the calibrated efforts by the Congress party towards future course of action", said the party, in its statement.
It has been been revealed that party President Rahul Gandhi wished to resign from his position, as he was unable to lead the party to victory and suffered a humiliating loss in Amethi, but senior party leaders urged him to stay on.
