New Delhi, September 5, 2019:

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused anticipatory bail to former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in connection to the INX Media case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The apex court also added that P Chidambaram would not be shown all the materials collected by ED as of now. The agency also need not produce the transcripts of the senior Congress leader’s questioning in court.

Calling economic offenses “serious”, the SC said anticipatory bail had to be an exception in such cases.

The Supreme Court added, “The right to anticipatory bail can't be a subject matter of fundamental right under Article 32.”
