The Supreme Court will be resuming work with its pre-pandemic force from today as its 12 benches with around 30 justices would meet daily by videoconference.

According to the information shared on the website of the Apex court, 10 benches of two to three judges and two benches of Singh judges will sit daily from 12th October onwards for hearing.

However, two judges, Justices Vineet Saran and Mohan M Shantanagoudar will not be sitting.

This increased force will double the output of the Supreme Court, which has decided not to start physical hearings yet due to the COVID-19 situation in the country.

According to the list of cases for Monday, eight benches will have three judges each and two more benches with two judges each to hear cases.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak in March, five benches of two to three judges in different combinations had sat on working days to hear about 20 cases a day.

The court issued a circular on March 23 suspending entry of lawyers and litigants to the court premises and directing that only extremely urgent cases would be taken up for hearing through video conferencing during the lockdown period.

After the pandemic hit the country, the higher court registry operated with a reduced number of staff for a variety of reasons, including the lack of adequate public transport facilities.

“To help lawyers and litigants, who may have difficulty joining the videoconference, 12 facilitation rooms have been created, of which five are functional in the complex of additional buildings of the Supreme Court of India. and seven VC facilitation rooms are operational. Technical assistance is provided in the facilitation rooms of the VC, ”the district court said.

The hearings in Supreme Court are conducted through the Vidyo app which can be downloaded on mobile phones and desktop. The platform is hosted on the servers of the National Data Centre of the National Informatics Centre.
