The Prime Minister Narendra Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a huge number of votes in the 2019 General elections and the Congress got swept away in yet another Tsunamo wave.
Despite many controversies surrounding his tenure as Prime Minister (Rafale deal, anyone?), the Prime Minister proved all the doubters wrong and secured a historic mandate as the BJP became the first single political party since 2014 to win at least 300 Lok Sabha Seats.
Trends are showing a BJP sweep in 349 Constituencies in the country, with a victory in the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly election also now firmly within the saffron unit's grasp.
Remarkably, toughly contested State West Bengal witnessed an unprecedented rise of BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections with the saffron party achieving its highest ever tally of 18 seats in the state.
The opposition parties did not fare any better than in 2014, with only minor gains being witnessed by some parties like the BSP.
With this thumping victory, it has been assured that Modi's magic, by and large, has remained intact. But what remains to be seen is whether the BJP will deliver on its promises in the next five years.
Economic instability caused by demonetization, communal violence in the Hindi belt, as well as questions over the Rafale jet deal continue to plague this administration, and it will be interesting to see how Modi 2.0 is able to tackle these very legitimate concerns.
The Congress, meanwhile, will be ruing its missed opportunities to tackle the BJP juggernaut with solutions to the people's concerns instead of ganging up with opposition leaders to take down the TsuNamo.
It has been suggested that the Congress has lost touch with the working classes and they must make up this ground if they are to pose a stiff challenge to the saffron party come 2024.
